Winged Frida – Vera Lane Studio

Welcome back for my ‘official’ DT post for our Winged Things week at VLS. I said I had something special lined up….so here is my glorious shrine to Frida:

It all began with an old Christmas decoration that I was given. I knew that I could find a use for the carved wooden cross, so it got put into my stash box until the right project came along. Originally it had a distressed white paint effect, but a couple of coats of 24K Gold DecoArt Americana Decor Metallics paint gave it a fantastic make-over. I used Trimcraft Enamel Effects and Stickles to create the colourful ‘studded’ design before adding my images.

Frida looks fabulous with her angel wings, coloured with Promarkers and Copics. The quetzels were perfect for holding the sentiment that I chose – a quote from Frida Khalo:

I added some Distress Ink to the edges of the banner to tone down the whiteness of the card.

I hope I have inspired you to think outside the box with your digistamps – they are not just for cards and journals, but are perfect accessories for 3d projects too!! The ability to resize and flip them makes them so versatile! Thanks for stopping by today – why not check out the links below – our Facebook group is growing steadily and we love to share our art there. Every month we have a themed ATC swap which is always welcoming new players!!
