Continuing my Art Journal Adventure

I’m still pretty much on target with my Joggles Art Journal Adventure weekly prompts….only a few days behind now, after a hectic few weeks and a short holiday!!

Last week’s prompt was to use text in our first layer and I thought it was the perfect opportunity to christen my new Seth Apter stamps from IO Stamps. I decided to try a Dina Wakley style page as I admire her work greatly.

I used some W & N Smooth Surface Cartridge paper and randomly stamped my text stamp using Watering Can Archival Ink. (My ink needed to be waterproof as I would be adding other media over the top). I then added a patchy coat of gesso to the page allowing the text to still show through in places.

Next I applied several bright colours of DecoArt Media fluid acrylics in a random fashion. I didn’t want to think too much about the colour placement as much of this would be painted over. Once dry, I placed the figure masks on my page and stippled black paint around them, blending out slightly to soften the edge. I also added some black paint elsewhere on the page to balance the light and dark areas.

I used a stencil and some modelling paste to form the stars and set aside to dry. Fineliner and gel pen were used to add some doodles and text, but I felt that overall the page looked dull. I stencilled the turquoise squares and then splashed some neon pink paint to lift the palette.
