Kickstart Your Art – Day 1: Lots of Layers

Smeared and Smudged are making us blow off the cobwebs and get thinking creatively with a week-long journal contest with daily prompts. Today’s theme is ‘Lots of Layers’.

I started by creating a stripy wash of blue and green acrylic paint on my page. Once dry I used a Bamboo Leaf mask with Black Soot Distress Ink at the top and bottom of the page.

Next I used Festive Berries Distress Ink with a Woodgrain mask down the right side. I spread some clear Embossing Paste through a Circle mask in the centre and let that dry. I stamped and embossed some squares along the bottom and added the calendar page stamps (Dimension 4th) to them. I didn’t really like the effect so covered with some torn book pages and washi tape. I added colour to the book pages with Distress Inks. I stamped the skulls (Smeared Ink) and coloured with a Signo pen.

I stamped some birds (Lavinia Stamps) and the Karma phrase (Visible Image), then stamped the Retro Dots (Visible Image) randomly round the edge of the page.

Finally I used a black marker to write my words and added white highlights with a Signo pen.
