This month the theme for our challenge at Country View Challenges is ‘Texture’. I have created a beautiful canvas with a faux rusted effect, very tactile and full of visual interest.

I began by masking off a circle in the centre of my canvas and applying ExpandIt with a palette knife. When heated this creates a bubbly textured surface.

I then gave this a coat of acrylic paint: Quinacridone Gold, and Quinacridone Burnt Orange.

Next I added a wash of Cobalt Turquoise Hue to tone down the brightness and deepen the shadows.

Metallic Lustre in various colours adds a rusted, oxidised effect, and highlights the texture.

I heat embossed a resin face with a couple of coats of Baked Texture in Chunky Rust.

Gel medium holds the face in the centre.
