This week sees another new release in the Vera Lane Studio shop. Tall Town is a fun set of buildings, quirky and original, just begging to be coloured up in bright cheerful colours:
I had the perfect substrate – a 10 x 50 cm canvas, just right for creating a funky street scene. I gathered together some gorgeous colours from my Crafter’s Acrylic stash and a couple of Andy Skinner stencils and set to work on my canvas.
I randomly applied the paint then stencilled in contrasting colours. I used a bottle top dipped in white paint to creat the circles, and the edge of an old credit card dipped in black to create the lines. A few splatters and dots of paint added to the texture of the background.
I wanted a bright sketchy feel to my houses so coloured them with Polychromos pencils rather than markers. Those colours look so yummy, good enough to eat!!
I then cut them out an attached with DecoArt Media Matte Medium. Once dry I went around them with a charcoal pencil to add some definition. A couple of coats of DecoArt Media Ultra Matte Varnish sealed everything in place.
I love the whimsy of this piece – so vibrant and cheerful. It’s currently residing in my bedroom and makes me smile each morning!!
