Upcycled Brush Storage with DecoArt

The lovely people at DecoArt sent me some products to try, and amongst them was some really cool Americana Chalkboard Paint. I decided to give an old mug a face-lift and create a fun holder for my paintbrushes.

Here’s my mug (it’s quite large…and bright!) I gave it a thorough wash to make sure there was no grease or dirt on the surface ready for painting.

The instructions say use two coats, brushing in different directions for an even coverage. I did three just to be on the safe side! Leave to dry overnight then prep the surface with some chalk dust before writing on it.

My freehand writing isn’t that neat, so I wrote out on a piece of paper first and traced using chalk onto my mug, before writing with the chalk pen.

I also added an arrow and a couple of rows of decorative dots around the top and bottom to finish.

Now it’s a stylish accessory to my craft room:
