Welcome back to the amazing 31 Days of Halloween blog hop. The blog roll is in the sidebar to the left. If you are following the roll then you will have arrived here from Lisa F and your next stop is Fiona. All the rules can be found on Terra’s Blog at the top of the list. Be sure to stop by each day as there are prizes to be won by commenting and a sneaky scavenger image to find hidden in the blogs.
Yesterday I promised you a cool project, hope you enjoy looking at my Potion Cabinet (picture heavy post):
I started off with a MDF blank frame from Anna Marie Designs. I painted the base layer with DecoArt Media Quinacridone Violet. I used an Andy Skinner skull mask and some clear embossing paste in the centre, and stamped and embossed my Visible Image Runic Background stamp around the edge. DecoArt Media Carbon Black Antiquing Cream in the centre brought up the skull design nicely. I added some more Copper gilding wax around the edges.
The front part of the frame is painted with DecoArt Media Quinacridone Gold with a layer if Ranger Distress Crackle on top. I them rubbed DecoArt Media Carbon Black Antiquing Cream into the cracks to age it a bit. The inside of the frame (not really visible) and the ‘Potion’ word are painted with DecoArt Blue Green Light acrylic. The word is from Calico Craft Parts (I just spent a small fortune with them thanks to their feature in Craft Stamper magazine!) I added some Copper gilding wax to the word once it was dry.
I filled some glass bottles with bits from my stash – some scrolls made from foreign text pages, skull beads, and lampwork glass mushroom beads. A little wooden bucket and some purple berry stamens sits next to a wooden bowl of paper roses. I slicked some DecoArt Interference paints in Turquoise and Gold onto the bottles to give a slight patina and stop them looking so shiny.
I hung a mini wooden scoop and chopping board from a Tim Holtz hitch fastener glued to the frame.
The finishing touch was my little rubber rat….creeping along the top of the frame.
Thank you for looking, hope to see you again tomorrow!
