Welcome back to the amazing 31 Days of Halloween blog hop. The blog roll is in the sidebar to the left. If you are following the roll then you will have arrived here from Lisa F and your next stop is Fiona. All the rules can be found on Terra’s Blog at the top of the list. Be sure to stop by each day as there are prizes to be won by commenting and a sneaky scavenger image to find hidden in the blogs.
Today is Friday so that means it’s time to get out some Smeared Ink stamps and use them in my project. I have created a freaky little thing, not sure what to call him, but I like him!
I started with a MDF tealight holder – a 6cm cube. I took the metal disc out of the top and coated the cube with gesso. While that was drying I decided to mess up my china doll’s head.
This was a learning curve….I learned that Ranger Distress Crackle does not like bisque porcelain. The first coat just seemed to soak into the china and disappear, so I added another coat……this did crackle, but then flaked off really badly. Oh well, I wasn’t going to get the effect I originally intended, but just went with the flow and ended up with something that looked like I had dug out of the garden instead. I added DecoArt Carbon Black Antiquing Cream, allowed to dry and wiped away the excess. Then I added a wash of Transparent Yellow Iron Oxide and Transparent Red Iron Oxide.
Now the MDF base was dry I covered the sides with some….wait for it….Graphic 45 paper (Rare Oddities Collection). The wings are from Smeared Ink’s Raven set, stamped with Versamark and embossed with WOW Halloween glitter embossing powder.
I added a coat of Deco Art Titan Buff paint to the top with a wash of Transparent Red Iron Oxide, then re-inserted the metal candle holder and fixed the head in place with a hot glue gun.
I hope you like my project for today – what should I call him?? Any suggestions would be most welcome!!
