It’s time for another round of inky antics with the June Member Blog Hop over at the Smeared and Smudged Forum, and if you are following the blog roll you will have arrived here from Erin’s blog. This month we are all altering found objects, my contribution is this altered book, found in a second-hand junk shop, just begging to be transformed. I used Gel Medium to glue chunks of pages together so that I had three chunky double page spreads inside the book. (I apologise in advance – there are lots of pictures, showing all the details).
We’ll start with the cover which features The East Wind’s digi – Lucy Loo Bookaholic. I coloured it with my Spectrum Noir pens then spritzed with Artiste Goldstone mist to dull down the brightness a bit. I paper mache’d some of the book pages to the front then added acrylic paint for the base. The image was then glued on and edged with text print washi tape.
I painted the back and added more washi tape to the spine for decoration and strengthening purposes.
Well, the question in the title is ‘What’s In A Book?’……let’s take a look….
Love and Romance….we all love a sloppy story, don’t we?
I used Distress Inks to colour the pages then stamped Isabella Lost Love and Edward Is Immortal (both stamps from Visible Image) onto white card. I fussy cut the images, coloured with Spectrum Noir pens then glued in place. The words are also by Visible Image stamps, stamped directly onto the pages. The heart stamp was a magazine freebie that I have had for years, stamped randomly on the page. I finished with a hand drawn border using a fine liner pen.
What else is in a book I hear you say?…..
Horror and Suspense!!!!!…..
Again I started with Distress Inks to colour the pages. The goblet is one of Lisa Tyrell’s digis, printed onto white card then fussy cut. The tree branches and bats are Visible Image stamps. I coloured the digi with my Spectrum Noir pens then added some Ruby Slippers Stickles for a bit of shimmer. The image was glued to the page then I set about writing the words in different fonts using a fine liner pen. Again I doodled a border around the pages.
But wait, there’s more, the final chapter in this book is……
Myth and Fantasy…..
Yes, you guessed it – I used Distress Inks for the background colour then I stamped directly onto the pages with a selection of Lavinia Stamps. The back section is really thick – over half the book. I used a knife to carve an oval out of the pages a few layers at a time until I got the depth I wanted. I wrote the words with a fine liner and added all the highlights with a white gel pen.
I hope that you have enjoyed looking at this project – it is something that I have wanted to do for a very long time. Please take the time to check out all the great projects on today’s hop – you won’t be disappointed! Your next stop should be Shoni’s blog – thanks for stopping by, I’d love to read your comments.
